KATHMANDU, JUN 03 - The first National Population Conference is scheduled to kick off in the Capital on Thursday with the theme “Communicating Population for Development Planning”. President Ram Baran Yadav will inaugurate the conference amidst the presence of distinguished dignitaries at Soaltee Crown Plaza.
The Ministry of Health and Population, Central Department of Population Studies, Tribhuvan University, Population Association of Nepal, Centre for Research on Environment, Health and Population Activities, Family Planning Association of Nepal andUnited Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) are jointly organising the conference. PSI Nepal and Marie Stopes International are the co-organisers.
The conference aims to discuss key issues of population and sustainable development and to build a common understanding among stakeholders of national development priorities and targets for the post International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and Millenium Development Goals (MDG) frameworks.
A total of 108 papers have been selected for the conference and will be presented in 72 parallel and 36 poster sessions on around 15 themes. The three-day conference will end on June 7.
